I've noticed this on and off since I got my truck but it's doing it almost constantly now. When I press in my clutch pedal, something makes a snapping noise, and then makes the same noise when the pedal comes back up. It's a 2003 2.3 2wd with almost 160k. Someone suggested it's the switch that makes it so you can't start the truck without the clutch being pressed, sound right?

Have you crawled around on the floorboard and looked at the clutch pedal to check its bushings/pivot points? There are plastic bushings in there that could crack and cause what you describe. Some have also experienced the clutch pedal rod (the rod that goes through the pedal bracket) eroding the pivot points' holes to the point of inoperability.

Another thing to check would be your clutch master cylinder pushrod. Check the pivot point where the rod meets the clutch pedal. Again, there's a plastic bushing that could be busted and cause your symptom. The clutch interlock switch (it keeps you from starting without the clutch pushed in) could also be funky.

Let us know if you find anything.

Hey all, I'm Lindsay's husband,
It seems that sometimes the clutch interlock switch snaps when the pedal is depressed, When the pedal is released the interlock switch lifts upwards on the plastic shaft, then makes a louder clunk when it jumps back down to the bracket...

Is the switch supposed to be fastened at the bottom somehow? it doesn't appear to be broken but I've never looked at another to compare... I feel like it should be fastened down rather than just floating.
