I have a 1994 4.0, M50D-R1. Previously I had come across a post about putting a np205 behind a M50D-R1 and now I can't find it.

The question I have is will a NP205 bolt up to a M50D-R1? My reason for asking is that I will be putting tons under my truck soon and I want a NP205 for a driveline brake and twin stick fun. With the ability to run a 203/205 doubler one day.

Nope, the bolt pattern is wrong and so is the output spline. It will fit behind an R2 once you grind the trans flange to clear the shift rail. From what I can recall the R1 and R2 are very similar internally so there could be a faint possibility of putting a R2 output shaft and housing on an R1 as long as the interchange is correct. If not the only way of doing such a combo would be a 2wd trans and a divorced 205.

I though about that... never got around to trying it.

I don't want a divorced transfercase, thats just a whole new set of problems. So us Ranger owners are stuck with the 1350 & 1354 then?

C-5 trans opens up all kinds of possibilities.

I knew someone would say that. If an atlas didn't cost more than my truck I'd be all for it.

Is a c-5 a manual? I don't know much about the other transmissions.

I actually just priced it, $2400 for an atlas to fit a ranger. I bought my truck for $3000....yeah I'm good.
