Replacing slave and doing clutch while in there. Looking at the pilot bearings from several sources it shows a roller bearing. My crank end has no roller bearing or remnants of a roller bearing. I can see a thin ‘sleeve’ in there with an inside ridge ~ 1/2” in. There is no race or remnants of a roller bearing on the trans shaft either. The photo in the forum repair section doesnt match what I have. Is the roller type something new or am I missing something? TIA.

The 3.0 is in the crank the 4.0, 2.9 etc is in the plate per this forum. I appreciate the response.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
You won’t see an inner race for that bearing. It is simply a needle bearing using the shaft as its inner race. The needles may have completely wore away. The thin sleeve with lips is the outer race of the needle bearing. That may be a challenge to remove. But it can be done, probably with hammer, punch and needle nose pliers, unless you can get something in behind it to pull it out.

What's left of the bearing looks to still be in the end of the crank.

Ok thank you both. It’s hard to believe there’s nothing at all left of an inner cage and the needles but I guess anything is possible. Maybe the worn pieces fell out. I’ll get the listed one. Again the insight is much appreciated. Thanks.

You should check the end of the transmission that fits onto the pilot bearing also. Make sure it is not damaged or worn too much. if it is not good, you could be working on it again.

I went through the same thing 2 years ago. The pilot bearing wore away and only the outer race was left in the end of the crankshaft. It ate the input shaft on the transmission. It was cheaper to get a used trans vs new input shaft installed.
