I am building a 4WD BII. The 2.9 I am puting in it came from a 2WD Ranger. When I picked up the flywheel from the machine shop the pilot bearing had been removed. That is okay since I would replace it anyway! The problem is: The new pilot bearing I have appears to fit into the crankshaft but is way too small to fit into the flywheel. The input shaft on the tranny does not extend forward far enough to fit into a bearing pressed into the crankshaft. Is there a difference in flywheels for the 2WD and 4WD? Is there an alternate pilot bearing?

I'm pretty sure the fly wheels are different between 4x4 and 2x4 plus they do change over the years also the 5 spd and auto's are different I believe

Thanks. I am guessing that there are two types of pilot bearings--one with OD of 21mm that fits into the crankshaft and another one with OD of 28mm that fits into the flywheel. If that is correct, I have the crankshaft verion.
