Are you talking about the ceramic or the steel part which is threaded into the head.

the steel part of the plug broke, the treaded end is now seperated from the head that would fit into the socket.

Ok I would try a tool such as an EZ out, you should find a size to fit the hole and remove the thread, you should use a good penetrating oil and let it soak in real good.
The problem to be careful of though is any crap that falls inside the cylinder.

^^^ Oops... WildSide got there before me ^^^

I'd say if you have enough material to work with on the threaded sleeve that is stuck in the head, try using a screw/bolt extractor on it. It used to extract bolts that have had the heads torqued off. They should have them at your local auto parts shop. That may be worth a try.

so then you got it out?

i hat easy outs, they always break. heres the kit i have, i needed to remove some broken lugs from an explorer 5.0L The pic sucks but i used the smaller ones in the top of the case, you can see the one that i used to extract it as well as the broken peices of the plug.

thanks for the responses guys. i first tried to drill away the porcelin ( spell) and electrode so i could get the easy out i have to bite. Drilling didnt work so i started to chip at it lightly with a tap and got most of it out when i heard a small ping. now the tip of the electrode nd probly 1/2 inch of the porcelin are resting on my piston right now nd the easy out was used for about an hour with no luck. so idk what to do now, im probly gona get a new extractor but that wont be untill monday so the truck is sitting with a rag stuffed in spark plug sleve protecting the cylinder. I dont know how im not hitting my head against the wall i never thought changin my plugs would bring about so much harm. once i get the rest of the plugs threaded end out im gona make some kind of really skinny attachment for my shop vac and attempt to clean out the cylinder :sad:

in the past when i have had plugs break in that manner, i just start the truck. The compression shoots the porcelin from the plug casing.

The center electrode would be held in place by the ground but if it does enter the cylinder you have no option than to pull the head.

I would pull the head now. You don't want to risk screwing up the block or head. It doesn't take long.

well yea didnt pull the head, me nd the old man worked on getting the porcelin out so we could get an easy out in there. I had to go to work so he worked on it during the day yesterday nd he ended up getting it out with the easy out, like 5 extentions on that, and a pipe wrench. That thing was in there real good lol. After that he vacummed it out with the shopvac nd an extention that made it small enough to fit in the plug hole. Then he turned it over a few times just bumping the starter nd vacumming inbetween turns. then he started it without that plug in and everything was fine. So lastly he put the plug in nd fired it up, everything has been fine so i guess he got it all out. bottom line, IM putting antisieze on all my plugs from now on. next comes o2 sensors nd a pvc intake trying to further better gas mileage

ill have to keep in mind running the truck with the plug still in to push out the porcelin next time though, i did run it a lil but i guess not long enough to let the casing heat up nd expand a lil so it would push out

Guys,

I just experienced this with my rig and was successful...

In my case was the two rear drivers 4 & 6 I think. In one case the ceramic came out with the hex and the other broke.Since these plugs are breaking at the assembly point that remaining ceramic should come out either by turning the motor over or vacuuming it out. Then I used a Snap On EZ out (Critical that you don't use a junk EZ out or you will do more Damage!) The Ezout size was the tool that requires a 7/16" hole. Drill the plug accordingly make sure the depth is sufficient so the tool does not bottom out but careful not to drill thru. each time you draw the drill back use the vacuum to clean up. KEEP THE CRAP OUT OF THE MOTOR!!!. Then I used a OX/Ace torch w/ a neutral flame to heat the plug hot enough to just glow, a few seconds. Have the tool ready with a handle extension for you breakerbar or ratchet. And that should do the trick.
