I am having an issue with my in tank fuel pump. This has been driving me mad! :temper: I believe (by process of elimination) it may be a ground issue. I can not locate the termination point of the in tank fuel pump ground.

I have a 1985 Ranger with a 2.3 "A" engine.

Can someone please tell me where this termination point is?

Thanks.

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
"A" engine; 2.3L EFI, right? According to the '85 EVTM, it's ground G200, which is behind the dash, just inboard of the fuse box. A whole lot of stuff, including both fuel pumps, is grounded through G200, so check it closely. There's also a few splices and one inline connector between G200 and the pump. Good luck.

I don't suppose you could divulge the location of the inline connector? If it is in the engine compartment, it would make sense that this is my problem as opposed to te termination point.

Thanks.

Hang loose; I'll see what I can do.

<edit>
Here ya go:

It’s C118, which is one of the about five connectors bunched at the rear of the driver’s side fender apron (wheel well). It’ll be on the harness going down under the truck. C118 is listed as a black 8-pin connector.

Your splices, within the harnesses, are:
S305; right at the takeoff to the tank.
S304; farther up the harness towards the engine compartment.
And S200; which is behind the center of the dash, near the blower switch takeoff.

Hope that helps.

I think I found it. There are a black 8 position connector and a gray 8 position connector located a few inches in front of the firewall just below the passthrough. The black connector apears to have the ground wires in it. It is a corner pin but I could not see a pin number on the connector.

I removed and cleaned up the pin and socket then reassembled the connector.

I'll let you know if my problem is solved the next time we get 80 degree weather around here.

Thanks again.

How about the relay for the pump, any chance that it is bad or the connections are a little corroded ?

Just asking
