I've got a '88 SWB 4 cyl. Ranger and a donor '88 Lincoln TC w/ 5.0 and Auto.

I know V8 swaps happen all the time, but since this is the same year, will it potentially go easier?

Also, how difficult would it be to also use the TC rear end (have a complete matched v8 power train).

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.

You have a wide selection of years to choose from, 96-97 explorer 5.0 is the best overall, ability to have the simplest standalone wiring system, most campact FEAD available for the 5.0.
The TC is still a good candidate, your cooling system will be a little tighter due to the longer FEAD. Get a set of 2.9l/4.0) motor mounts, and use the plate style mounting. Make sure you get the EVTM's for both vehicles. The rear axle can be used, but you will have some fabrication to do. A better choice is an 8.8 from any 4.0 ranger from the 90's, direct bolt in swap, and will handle the power of the V8...

with one alteration. the town car rear end as it arrives, is not a "real" v8 rear end. no different then a normal ranger 8.8.....150 hp isnt exactly.....well.


the f150 or explorer rear axle otoh.....would be closer to a matching v8 setup.
