I have a 97 ranger 4.0, and was looking at removing the EGR valve. The reason I wanted to do this is because on the exhaust manifold there is a line that is cut off and just pinched off. Also the fitting on the egr valve is just plugged off to. Would it be fine to just remove the whole EGR valve? If i took it off, how would I plug the line that runs up to the air intake? Thanks

well, even if it is disabled, and it sounds like it might be, which makes it odd that you don't have all sorts of driveability issues and a check engine light on all the time on account of that being a 97 with OBDII, I'd leave it, because at the very least it isn't hurting you having it just hanging there. At the most, you may not meet your local emissions standards if the valve isn't physically present.

If it is a trail rig you are truning it into fine, then remove it and put a plate over the hole. But do your green thing and get the emissions part of your truck back to factory standards, if you are going to be driving it on the roads. Thank God it is the sellers responsibility here in Colorado to make sure a vehicle passes emissions before you can sell it. Helps to get rid of all of the morons out there who don't have a clue and cut the lines and bend them over rather than just buying a new air pump. Be responsible people for what is comming out your @ss end.
