Is this a loss cause or is there a way to get back the shine on my newly purchased 91 Ranger? Thanks

Horse pucky. If you plan on doing it yourself don't bother with off the shelf products like... meguiar's.
Mothers and meguires make compounds and polishes that work just fine. The real difference maker is using a buffer with them, with the proper pads for the product. If you plan on doing it yourself don't bother with off the shelf products like mothers or meguiar's.
Order done stuff from Adams polishes. You will not be disappointed.
