Came across a really informative YouTube video by Randum Adventures on Ranger/BII swaps.

He pointed out his Ron Francis-sourced wiring harness, which I was curious about. Had to have my current motor re-wired a year or so back, couldn't find a decent used harness anywhere and I dont know a damned thing about auto electric...

Spoke to a tech at Ron Francis, told him Im looking to swap either an OBD1 '94-'95 Mustang 302 or an OBD2 '96-'97 Explorer 302 into my OBD1 '94 Ranger. Deciding on fitment versus wiring ease/challenges, but was leaning towards the Mustang, though mentioned it'll be more expensive to find a clean donor Mustang than a clean Explorer.
Then he blew my mind; he says with this Telorvork kit, they can pre-program for the motor its going into, they can program out the auto trans codes, and I dont have to be limited to eihter donor rig based on EEC generation.

Anyone else have experience with this? It seems almost too good to be true, but even at $1000+ for the kit, if I can buy a clean, low mileage Explorer for a couple grand, not have to worry about wiring, this would literally make this plug and play. But is it true?

My credo
Give 'yer balls a tug. Fight me.
@Bird76Mojo has one.

Not sure if he's around anymore, though.

Megasquirt is an option as well. Requires more tinkering, though. I have one on a 2.9. Worth it. But... you have to be computer savvy.

I have some experience with Ron Francis standard wiring parts/items. quality stuff in my
opinion. their wiring kits are labeled nicely & I use their relays plus a few other items on my
ride, no issues since installation back in 99. I know 2 other guys that have wiring kits from
them & they both are happy with everything.

I`m sorry, I know I really did not answer your question............

The Telorvek harness I used needed the efi 302 to have some Foxbody sensors and distributor. I converted it over to the SN95 style dizzy later on to move the TFI module to a cooler location. It's a very nice kit but it wasn't really a harness until I made it one. It's just rolls of individual wires with connectors and writing on them that you cut to your needed length and terminate at the Telorvek panel. Your Foxbody EEC then plugs into that. It can also be used as a break-out board for diagnostics.

I used the Telorvek MG-70 to take advantage of the Foxbody computer being much more aggressive and tunable compared to the SN95 (94-95) EEC's.

I'll be swapping out the Foxbody EEC to a PimpXS pretty soon. Gotta get some downtime to install the new heads, intake, injectors, etc. I hope to get to 300hp at the flywheel.

Oh, I do recommend using ONLY high quality OEM style wiring harness tape to wrap everything. Don't cheap out on this or you'll regret it later.

Thanks for this info; glad you commented, since the Francis guys made it seem like a kit purchased would tie up all my electronic stuff, shoehorn the motor in, give it a wash after it all. :)

I gotta say, it's probably hard to beat the newer copies of the old Ford Racing engine swap harness that Ron Francis makes. Though the harness length limits you on EEC location. Like this sequential fire harness: https://www.ronfrancis.com/product/493
