I have a 1994 4.0 v-6 and decided to do the Saginaw pump conversion. I went with the 1978-1979 F-350 Super Cab pump, part #AA1 20-6240F from RockAuto(has the aftermarket filter installed). After taking the trouble to remove the stock pump and bracket I found that the Saginaw pump fit without any modification. The pump didn't have the bracket as mentioned in the Tech article, but the bolt holes for the pump lined up exactly with the bracket. It even had the same style mount as the stock pump that I pulled off.

Has anyone else had this experience? Apologies for no pictures, I meant to but then got side tracked when I didn't have to modify it.

Don't know yet, I need the high pressure line and a serpentine belt first before I can drive it.

Got the pressure line but I didn't know that I needed an o-ring for the seal so it spit out all the fluid. Still between the saginaw and the redneck ram gear box I can turn the 37"tires with one finger at a dead stop.

You may need to get a pressure line for a Gen 1 Ranger. The pump end of the hose changed sometime in the Gen 2 years. I have a pic somewhere in my build I will try to dig up. The threads where the same, but the sealing surface changed.

EDIT: Here is a comparison. The new line is style you need. The block above the fittings is where the hose goes into the pump (it is held to pump with a Banjo bolt and is sealed with copper washers)

Pressure line needs to be ordered for a 85 f150, 302, 4x4.

Orings, washers, spacers... They will not work. At all.

The first gen RBV hose has the correct fittings, and fits like factory. The F150 hose doesn't sit in there as pretty.

I compared about 10 different Ford pressure hoses side by side when I did mine, and mid 80s Ranger was the ticket.

I had I didn't mess anything up by over tightening it :/ The hose information would be a good addition to the tech library!!

Heres the post from few years back when I did mine.

I replaced my PS pump with a saginaw pump.

Full circle power steering pump bracket in preparation for a Saginaw pump.

The full circle 4.0 bracket requires a bit more clearancing than the 2.3 and 3.0 brackets. The part that actually bridges the gap must be trimmed down so only the "face" of it remains, then you have to nip the end off of a few ribs and trim the top edge to clear the reservoir.

Here are some comparison pics

The full circle bracket also has alot more webs in it that were deleted on the newer bracket:dunno:.

After I bolted the pump to the bracket and installed the pulley and them bolted the whole thing on the truck. It worked out pretty well.

After I got the pump on and filled it up I discovered that I should have taken a closer look at the hose fittings. Apparently the Saginaw pump is made to recieve a line with a straight end and oring and the newer Rangers use a goofy line that is made to seal using a nylon ring on the tube nut. The threads are the same, but it wont seal.lol To make it work on the newer Ranger, all you have to do is pick up a High side line for an older Ranger. I bought a new one for an 85.

Here is a comparison. The new line is style you need. The block above the fittings is where the hose goes into the pump (it is held to pump with a Banjo bolt ans sealed with copper washers)

Here is the finished product.

Also. When installing the pulley on the Saginaw pump, dont press the pulley on all the way the the "step" on the shaft. Leave about a 3/16 gap. If you push it too far back it will throw the belt out of alignment and sqeal like a MFer.

This fit perfect, and IMO was just what I wanted. The Ranger line was a bit long. I had to tweak the hard line a bit to make the joint at the gearbox work. However it is just the right length for me.

Exactly my point. As long as you are capable of tweaking the bends of the hard line, it fits sooo much nicer.

Here are the pics of the pump installed.

The f-150 line fit like a glove

This one shows how the bracket required no modification.

Has anyone done this with rack and pinion steering? The pump on my 98 is done, and could use an upgrade.

That doesn't look like a Saginaw pump. Thats the standard pump they used on 80's RBVs too.

The Saginaw will have the different bolt pattern.
