My truck has a D35 TTB/8.8 axle combo with a 6" Skyjacker lift right now. If/when I eventually do a SAS and a stronger in the rear, will I need to replace the entire lift kit? Or is it just swapping out a few parts?

Thanks in advance.

A SAS is a custom setup that requires custom fab work.

Care to elaborate? Or address the specifics in my question?

Nothing on the front lift wise will work on the SAS, not even the lift springs, so yes, you will have to swap the entire lift kit out....The rear will interchange

Ok thanks, I'm just trying to wrap my head around what I'll be doing when I break the TTB

If you don't ever plan on going bigger then a 35" tire, you can upgrade the D35 TTB front end to handle them. 760 Spicer joints, 'Jeep' hubs/d44 outer swap etc. All these things can make your stock front end stronger and won't take nearly as much work or $$$ as a SAS will, believe me....

Check the Tech library HERE for all the details!

Thanks, I'll look into that as something to do for now, until the SAS eventually comes. I don't plan on going bigger than 35s but I know that I'm rough on my trucks. I plan on holding onto the Ranger for a long time so EVENTUALLY it will get the solid axle.

I had a 2000 Explorer with a much weaker front end than this Ranger and I completely destroyed it one lovely fall day on the trails. I was told that it wasn't easy to break, that lift shop was wrong. I'm just worried about being too rough on the TTB and breaking it too.

Well my truck is some kind of weird hybrid.. It's a 93 cab/front clip with a 94 sidestep bed on a 90 frame. It's got F150 springs but I have Ranger lift springs that will be replacing them.

The TTB coils will work with an SAS, but they are really too stiff to flex well. Thats why guys even with TTB will use SAS (early bronco usually) coils on their trucks.

The springs will physically fit, but as stated, will not flex well at all and give a harsh ride, besides, I doubt he will have the weight of a 460 under the hood :icon_thumby:

The HP D35 TTB with 5-760X u-joints and the Jeep hubs is pretty dang close to what the D44 found under a F-150 is, if not even a hair better than one with the OE 297X joints, just to give you an idea of it's strength (also, figure your Ranger is several hundred to a thousand pounds lighter than the F-150 too). A D44 would get you larger brakes though (though they also can be swapped onto the D35 too).
Certainly it's MUCH stronger than the SLA IFS used on a '00 Explorer.

If you go SAS, a D60 is probably what you'd want to go after (and the 10.25" rear to match), as it offers significant strength advantages over both the D35 and a D44.

Sooo... Then would it be too much trouble to ask someone to tell me what I need to order to strengthen my D35?

I'm still pretty new to all of this. I understand some of it, but there's also a lot of numbers and letters thrown in there that I don't quite get.
