Anyone have a good method to remove the knob from a 5 spd shifter? What about putting it in warm water to maybe expand it a little. Yes, the shifter is out of the trans.

If you can get the space between the knob and the boot a number of people have had success putting a 15 mm wrench on the lever under the knob and hitting it with a hammer.

I usually just shift into 4th and it goes flying off the lever onto the floor.

I just got done epoxying my shift knob on so it would stop coming off in 2nd gear.

That one worked for me. I wish I had wrapped a rag around it though, I used a 22mm wrench and it left two tiny gouges in the plastic.

Just have your cousin grab it and say 'Let me straighten the numbers on that' as they proceed to completely twist it off...then continue with the below

I usually just shift into 4th and it goes flying off the lever onto the floor.
Worked like a charm for me!

Well nothing worked, until it broke. Looks like it had been glued on by a previous owner.
