Should I be worried?

I recently bought a 7.5 for my 87 super and put in all new gear oil and brake hardware, slapped it in. But when i was putting the brakes on I noticed that there was about 3-4mm of play in the axleshaft.:shok:. Its so bad that the tire moves when bolted. I dont know much about axle components, all I know is the ring gear and pinion looked perfect and the gear oil was like new (axle came off a truck bed trailer.)

I have about $160 in this axle and dont want the axleshaft to fall out or anything.

Could it be worn out c-clips maybe? I just hope its not a big deal to fix.

I remember about that much slop when I worked on an 8.8 when I pulled the c-clips. It's still good.

that's about normal, especially if it's a limited slip since when the clutches wear it causes more play in the axles laterally

Well its open diff. I checked my other rear end (which has messed up wheel bearings and worn ring+pinion) and it had barley any play. I just thought that if when the tire is on you can shake it back and forth its a problem.

How will I know if its a problem? How much play is too much?
