I tried whining to see if there was a way to get the new "ranger" information. Or at least let fomoco know what I want in the new truck. So hopefully they take my power sniveling seriously (I don't think they will, but...). here is What they wrote back.

Dear Gabriel Logan,

Thank you for contacting the ford motor company customer relationship center regarding the production of a diesel powered downsized truck in the US.
From time to time, vehicle models are added, deleted or modified. Decisions to make these changes take into account factors such as market trends, customer demands, engineering advances, and dealership input. The Customer Relationship Center is unaware in advance of changes that our engineering and design team may be making and the specific reasons that the changes may be made in the future.
however, feedback from valued customers like you enable us to know what our customer needs are. We hope to use this information to improveour products and to enhance the loyalty of our customers. Rest assured that our engineering and design team are constantly working on ideas in improving our vehicles to address the customer's changing needs. Updated information on our future products are available through our website and media releases.
We sincerely thank you for takin the time to write to us.
sometimes email communication does not allow us to gain additioal information that may be helpful in responding to you inquiry. Should you feel that we have not adequately addressed your questions, please feel free to contact us via telephone at (800) 392-3673 between the hours of 8am-5pm, local , time, monday through friday. hearing-impaired caller with access to a TDD may contaact 1-800--232-5952.

Man if that isn't your typical standard form letter. That's how those people get jobs in customer relations, because their answers have to be politically correct.

Kudos Gabriel for trying though.

I went to my local Ford dealer and test drove a 2010 4 cyl. supercab and asked the saleswoman why they don't offer a diesel in the Ranger in the U.S. and she said there's no demand for it. I told her you obviously don't get on the internet and see the amount of people that want one.

I don't know what the sales dopes, sry, sales *reps* are saying up front, but the line they are feeding us in the shop about no diesels in smaller vehicle is that the factories aren't tooled to make them and that it would cost more than they think they can make on it to either build/retool a factory here to properly build them or to import the engines from Europe. They are aware that the demand is there, they just don't think that they will be able to charge enough for them to cover their costs in setting up the infrastructure, and they don't want to trust yet another new engine to NaviStar right now after the 6.4L debacle.

so there is hope?

all they need is a swift kick in the nutz to jump start them and realize people would buy them.

I kinda smell bs on this one. First, Ford Motor Company isn't capitalized (more than once). Some of the words aren't spelled correctly. A period at the end of the letter after what should be Ford Motor Company.

Yes, I could read it and understand it. However, no company as big as Ford is going to write their own name without capitalization or send a letter with misspelled words.

Just my .02....

Don't think that there any many around here that remember when Ford invited the moderators from the 3 or 4 top Ranger sites out to Dearborn for a week to sit down with the Ford engineers to discuss the needs and wants of us. Pretty Jim sure was invited.
