When I first start up my 04 4.0, sometimes I hear what sounds like lifters clicking for a brief half second or whatever. I think it may be just the engine building up oil pressure, but I do know the SOHC engines had a problem with timing chain tensioners that supposedly ended around 02. Just curious to see if any of you guys experience anything similar.

You may be experiencing low oil pressure at start up. If you use a Motorcraft oil filter, it will not allow the oil to drain back and the oil pressure will build up quicker. It has an anti-drain valve that many filter do not have.

I have also heard many different engines do this and think it may be something in the emissions control that is doing it. I have no specific reason to think that; it is just a suspicion.
