Way back late in my senior year of high school (March 6th 2003 as I recall) I bought my "college car", a 1990 Plymouth Laser RS Turbo. Great car, I had to do a fair amount of work to it but for a car that age with that milage it wasn't too bad. I got it with 135k and sold it with just under 170k. 200hp and 30mpg was a noteworthy thing in those days and I sure appreciated. Neat looking car too, I had the stock exhaust so you couldn't hear the fart just the turbo whistle.
Last summer my brother and I took his 'stang on a road trip to a car show and it hit me how fun it would be to have something I could drive long distances to shows. I flip flopped back and forth between a 94-95 Mustang GT (the last OHV 5.0 to go with my brother first of the OHC 5.0, a '60's Mustang or something else. I came to the conclusion that Mustangs are kinda high priced for something that isn't a complete hack, newer or old... and I know even nice looking ones for a healthy price can still be complete hacks. I decided that it would be kinda neat to try to find a car like I used to have the "car I wish I'd kept" that it seems everybody has.
I wish I could track down mine, but within 3 months after I sold it in '05 the front was smashed in like it rear ended a pickup and a couple months after that I heard of a black Plymouth Laser Turbo on the radio being parted out the next town over. I never knew of another and didn't have the money to buy it whole or the heart to see it in whatever shape it was in... so sadly I don't think tracking mine down is an option.
I am wanting a '90-91 DSM (Plymouth Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse or Eagle Talon) FWD, Turbo, 5-spd. FWD because it is simpler, easier to work on, better milage... all around better for what I want to do.
Pics of what started it all, how it looked when I got it still all prettied up for prom. My date liked the stickers so I kept them on until shortly afterwards:
At the local car show trying to steal a trophy from a pile of late model Camaros... didn't fare well
The day I "sold" it. I took it home to clean it out and pull the plates off and did a group shot of what replaced it and the old standby Ranger. The next day it left my care.
And then there were two...
No big hurry to get one, gonna wait for a nice one to come along for the right price. Just found the pics of my old one and thought I would scan and share. Kind of neat to see how far the other two have evolved since then too.
