Have you checked all your connections at the head unit (speakers, power, ground)? if there all good you may have an internal problem, so when did you buy your deck, and new or used, if new when is the warranty up?

I've had the connecters on the speakers cause me trouble in the past, do all your speakers cut out or just one? Because if it is just one I’m thinking something might be wrong with the deck.

You already figured it out, but I wanna add something. All modern radios have a positive voltage (about 6 volts) on every speaker wire. Inorder to protect the outputs in the radio, all audio shuts off if any speaker shorts or any speaker wire shorts to ground or shorts together.
