you must just be lucky. if my tank pump is out it won't start. end. of. story.Haha. It depends on the situation. I had a bad in-tank pump in my '86. I could literally drive across town and it would die at the last stoplight. Wait a while and it would fire right up, drive some more, until the high pressure pump heated up again. So yes, it COULD run with just the high pressure pump. Mine ran 100% great until that last 10 seconds where the impeller in the pump stopped turning and lost fuel pressure.
It depends on your truck if it would actually work out this way or not. I am just telling you what my real world experiences are rather than how something is SUPPOSED to work.
