Have a 2008 ranger sport,, 6 cylinder automatic, 208 thousand kms on it. bought brand new. 2 years after buying it the camshaft sensor code came up and they put a new sensor in. This happened a few times til finally the code stopped coming up after more sensors. two weeks ago my engine light came on so took it in for service to my regular mechanic. A PO 340 code came up again, truck was running fine. They think its possibly a intermittent fault with the cam synchronizer. They cleared the code and it was fine. they said if the engine light came on I would have to take it to ford as they are the only ones that have a tool to see what the issue is. Today the engine light came on and Im waiting 2 weeks to have ford look at it. Is this normal to have only a ford dealer have this special tool? and also does this seem like a expensive fix? thank you
