Looks as if all of us in the rust may have a weak point in our rear steel brake line just in front of the axle were it comes of the frame rail to the tab to connect to the flex line. I have an 2002 Ranger Edge 3.0, auto, 2x4 and had the line rupture during moderate to hard breaking. It is being repaired but from what I saw it looks as if the rust along with the way the e-brake cable runs thru that it may have been rubbing as well as the rust to cause the rupture. I will let you know when I get the old line in my hands, and if was rubbed I'll be going to Ford and Traffic Safety to try and get a recall. It probably should be recalled for the rust issue alone. My trucks in excellent shape, if utilizing Kelley Blue book standards it would pass for excellent / good shape. I routinely wash it and run it through the car wash and have the undercarraige washed summer and winter.
Those in the rust belt may want to check the line and have it replaced if it is rusty. It may just save your life, or at least keep you out of a wreck.
