Never put off ‘til tomorrow what you can put off indefinitely
I missed working outside in the beautiful 50° heat wave today, doing the real estate game, have to pay the bills, and I think I’m starting on a cold. Miles to go before I sleep at the Carlisle Truck Nationals.

So I played around a bit with the online graph paper, mostly to get my dimensions in my head, and here’s the preliminary ‘Raith design:

IMG_0951.jpeg

Tongue box (that also acts as a cooking seat), followed by gas grill, followed by casket divided in two. Red fenders over the tandem axles, spare in back.

And I’m thinking about dual power, 12 V for the road, an inverter, as well as a long extension cord for partying.

It’s a start..

Sanded the bed and the tailgate, & put a little Bondo in the dimples, nothing serious.

Sanded down the bondo. Then caulked where my bed face panels sit inside the front sides of the bed. No paint on it today, but it’s ready.

Soooo, the weather has been beating me up the last couple weeks. I’m an old fart, so if it’s too cold(below 50), it’s hard to be productive, but that’s compounded by some nerve damage in my neck, that makes my right arm go numb and hurt like it was on fire at the same time. But I worked through it.

So I did a near perfect job of caulking the front fill-in panels on the bed of this trailer, I rushed to get it all done before some rain, and then the rain came eight hours sooner than it was supposed to, the caulk wasn’t set, so the caulk got messed up.

Working all ends towards the middle during the rain, I started to take apart the Jenn-Air grill to figure out how I’m going to mount it. Damn, that thing is built out a nice stainless steel, heavy duty components. The first gas grill I’ve ever had that’s hard to turn its side by myself. I made some progress on that, mostly measuring and figuring.

Then, when the sun came out again, I recaulked the face panels, and of course they didn’t come out as nice as the first time. But I’ll work it out.

I searched around a little bit for that 15 inch wheel I want, emailed a couple of scrap yards, no response yet. I actually have a 15 inch steelie as a spare on the Missing Linc, which has all 15 inch steelies. I could put a mismatch 15” as a spare under that truck and use that 15 inch. I’m going to work both ends towards the middle on that one.

I took the 15 inch trailer steelie I already have and started to repaint it. I also took that final 14 inch steelie and started to paint it. Silver is done, hopefully this time I’ll remember to use the correct color red.

I also put the first coat of safety read on the Pintel tri Ball after brushing it and sanding it. Man, that thing weighs a ton.

I threw a few things from the shed of miracles in the trash. (you cannot even imagine how momentous that was), and I tinkered with some electronic stuff.

And Lincoln got a new red jacket. He outgrew the last one, the zipper popped. I try to be a good daddy to him….

A lot of crazy little stuff, but progress, I love it.

I went out late and did the red accents. It all needs a touchup.

IMG_0977.jpeg

This obviously shows the reason why I still want to use 235s on the trailer to match the truck, and use the 185s for the casket kitchen

Painting day. Touched up the wheels, just one more touchup of Silver after this. And my 15 inch trim rings came in. Still hunting the wheel.

Second coat of safety red on the tri ball Pintle.

I got the outside of the bed and the tailgate in primer. I discovered two more little dings, I’m not sure I’m going to worry about them. Next step will be the Regal Red.

Toonces drives a Ranger . . . . just not very well.
Must be something of a burden, having such big balls.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

You don’t know the half of it. I have eight of them.
I'm sorry to hear that. Have you considered getting help?

A good doctor could fix that.

How do you know a good doctor didn’t do it?

If you woke up with eight, I don't think that it was a good doctor. One should master basic math before going to medical school.

Everything I know about Rustoleum says you can’t use it below about 45°. So I’ve had the trailer ready to go, but I have to put the coats of paint on it when the temperature gets up a little bit. I got the two coats of red on, and then today I got the two coats of black on.

IMG_0997.jpeg
IMG_0996.jpeg

Before you zoom in and get critical about my lines, keep in mind that the breakpoint from red to black will be covered by reflective pinstripes like the truck

I still haven’t finalized how I’m going to do the Pintle hitch. Tomorrow I will mount the 235s, and in the process make sure my skinny spare will work in an emergency.

After that, I’ll put the wiring harness back in, and the extra wires for my insanity with strobes and such…

If I can kick it out of the way, I can get started on the Aluminum projects.

Oh, and I really spent the time with my sanding and finishing, and then using a foam roller to put on the paint. Came out pretty good for a little work. I’m definitely going to sand down the top of the Missing Linc and redo it.
