I would suggest a product called "Over-Rust"........I have used it on several rusty vehicles (68' MGB GT, and an 82' Jeep CJ7) that were pretty bad. Once I replaced the rusted out panel I coated the entire thing with this. Looks like chocolate milk when in the can...dries to a black, almost porcelain surface. Great stuff, and a quart goes a loooong way.

Works on steel only, won't do a thing to aluminum and "other" materials.

I live about 15 minutes from a place called TP Tools. They sell their own brand of POR-15 called "Rust Cover". It does exactly the same thing but it's cheaper. I have used it before. I plan to use that on the entire frame. As soon as I get the frame completely cleaned I will degrease it and then metal-etch it and then apply the Rust Cover. In the meantime, I have been ordering parts so I will have them here when it comes time to start putting it back together. As I said before, I am going all in so there is quite a pile of new parts here!

These following statements are the opinions and anecdotal observations of an idiot.

I generally only suggest paint....unless your completely derivoting and pulling every bracket.

I prefer to fully strip it of everything .. weld in metal as required....then if you use that rust coat like you have, or a por product there is full stop of corrosion...whereas leaving the brackets and overcoating will fail the frame much more quickly. Rust never sleeps

But...if it will never see extended winter rust belt conditions again....have it media blasted and do whatever. Just fasteners will be 70 to 100 bux and if your not skilled at rivet removal....not worth the time.

Absolutely agree, I will be pulling every bracket that I can. The only thing that won't be coming off is the shock tower on the driver's side. A work in progress. There is no way that I am going through all of this trouble without doing my best to keep Mr. Rust at bay!

Do you guys ever think about the fact that even though there is life on this planet, the atmosphere is so harsh that it eats through metal and the suns rays so powerful they can turn plastic into dust? 🤔
Yes. And also we have both starvation and obesity. Extracting from the earth and somehow making toxics to dump back in is also perplexing. We turn food into poo.

No new pics yet but I thought I would give everyone a parts update. Here is what I have so far. Front: Rotors, wheel bearings, seals, brake hoses, center link, tie rods, calipers, brake pads. Rear: Front spring hangers, rear spring hangers, u-bolts, and nuts, leaf springs, I-bolts, wheel cylinders, brake hardware, self-adjusters, drums, rear brake hose, brake shoes. All of the park brake cables. I also decided to replace the radius arm brackets and bushings. One side was really rusted so I figured what the heck. Everything will be here by Thursday. I still have to order the brake lines, I am going with stainless prebent ones. That should give me plenty to do. I have a four day weekend coming up.
