I'm currently working on v8 swapping my 86 ranger I'm putting in a Borg Warner T5 transmission I pulled from the junkyard. The current transmission is a Toyo Kogyo TK5. I was just going to bring it back to the junkyard to get my core fee back but I didn't want to do that if it had any value to it. I can't find anything on it so I'm assuming it's worth the $75 but I wanted to come here first to see is any ranger/ bronco folks knew anything about it

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Pry 100 bucks or so assuming its in working order.

Go to www.car-part.com and look them up to see what they are going for

Definitely keep it. Shifter is hard to find. Bell housings can swap around with 4 bangers to make them useful as well. Someone would love to stumble on a $100 trans when parts are N/A and they wanna keep it original or simple.
My 2 cents. I’m not a hoarder, I’m a resurrection supply technician 😁

I always liked "Previously tested transportation system parts distributor"

Welcome to TRS Kyle :)

Last TK-5 was used in 1987, so 36 years old now
So yes, parts will be scarce, and demand for the parts will also be scarce
In my opinion take the $75 now, "a bird in the hand......" thing

If you have the room to store it and the network of people wanting used Ranger parts then you might make an extra $25-$50
You could put it in the used parts section here or at other Ranger forums and see if you get any bites............but there is also shipping if they don't live fairly close

Speaking from an...I dunno, altruistic point of view: try to sell it privately, even if it doesn't make you a lot of money.

They haven't been made in a long time, they aren't getting easier to find, it's actually a pretty reasonably good transmission, and rebuild parts are still made for them so it can be freshened up pretty easily.

The TK-5 is also a close sibling to the Mazda RX-7 Turbo II transmission, so it may be worth something as a core to someone in the RX-7 world, potentially. I have no documentation to support this, however an experienced RX-7 nerd helped me rebuild my TK-5 and confirmed it was nearly the exact same thing inside, and seems to share its main housing with very minor differences. Different gearing too, of course.
