Oay, heres the history of Fred the friendly Ford's lack of an operating speedometer:
Eight years ago, I got this ranger from a fellow on free cycle.org. At that time the speedometer was not working. I put a cable and casing in it with no success. I thought it might be in the speedometer and did the drill motor check, speedometer turned out to be good.
I looked in the hole where the cable and driven gear go and no obvious damage to the internal gear, just a little rounding.
I then loaned it to a friend who was down to a '73 Jeep Wagoneer which got at best, 10 MPG. He the bought it from me.
When I was down to a gas sucking Grand Wagoneer (4 MPG better), he gave it back to me.
I later gave it to my then alive brother-in-law. Now it's back and no one until now has been able to find the =+%^#^ drive gear. It should be here no later than the 18th.
After all that, does anyone here know if one can replace the friggin gear without removing the transmission from the truck?
