Hey guys here is my problem and any input would be great. My 93 ford ranger 4.0l 5 speed 4x4 is making a noise when the truck is running and in neutral and the clutch out itsounds like metal grinding or a whining sound but I have no problems shifting or anything. Please help before it gets worse.

Your clutch is probably slipping. Take a look at your slave cylinder, clutch, and pressure plate. If you see any brake fluid or anything that doesn't look right, You might have to replace it.

Does it go away when you push the clutch in?

When you push in the clutch, it disengages the trans from the rotation of the motor, so, it might be something in your trans making the racket. The input shaft bearing is known to go out in these. Have you checked the fluid level in the trans? It takes ATF, and there are rubber plugs on the rear of the shift fork cover that leak

I have not checked the trans fluid since I had the trans out to replace oils pan gasket but when I filled it up I stopped once the fluid started coming out of the fill plug but there is not to much leakage there is a few drops every once in a while near where the trans goes into the transfer case
