I got bundled up and went out to help shovel today, mom’s Explorer is now leaking coolant. Looks like a clamp isn’t doing it’s job, but it can sit and wait till it warms up a little. Bundled up in my fleece lined pants and Carhartt bib overalls, fleece lined zip up hoodie and Carhartt knock-off coat because I was too lazy to get the real Carhartt out of the basement closet.

Moved mine out of the garage so I could get the tractor out & backblade the driveway. Was 10 in the garage and it fired right up. The tractor didnt start as easily but Ive never seen a 172 that did like cold weather starting. Since its got cold the ford tractor has got a coolant leak from up front somewhere. Oddly enough the other tractor (allis-c) leaks gas from the shut off valve when it gets cold. I drained the tank on it, will be fine when I need it in the spring. Ranger is all loaded up for the trip to my parents on monday.

I replaced the driver’s U-joint. I spun a cap then lost it and broke a cap. So I got it all replaced and started hearing a clunking when I hit the breaks. Turns out it was the lower radius arm bolt had backed out last trip I took. I went to back it out so I could put lock-tite on it and wouldn’t ya know, the darned weld popped loose inside the beam… I literally had that tire off and axle out at noon today 😵💫

Not directly about the Ranger, but I took my late dad's old rusty Chevrolet Silverado to the salvage yard today. I'd rather spend money keeping up my Ranger than be forced to put big bucks into a 30–year-old truck that has had major problems. For the Chevrolet to pass state inspection this time would probably have cost serious bucks, and I still wouldn't fully trust it.

I trust the Ranger as far as I have trusted any vehicle.

Well, weather improved a bit here so I decided to work on the green Ranger. Got the front brakes warrantied since the calipers seized and the pads froze to the rotors, so at least it didn’t run me a few hundred. Still have to put the new stuff on. Got my hose clamps on, cleaned up the upper intake and went to put it on and started hitting all sorts of things. Tweaked the heater lines and it was still rocking. PCV hoses were hanging up on the fuel line and I was having trouble figuring out exactly what was going on and what needed to happen and was running out of light and now I’m questioning my work on the heater lines…

I'm glad you took my advice and put that poor truck out of it's misery. It really was the kindest thing to do!

I attempted to fix the lower RA retaining bolt today. But after I wee welded the bung back down, I removed the bolt to let everything cool faster so I could lock tite it back. Well I cross threaded it trying yo put it back. Then after drilling out the first 2 or 3 threads and trying to run the bolt from the top down, to clean up the starting thread, my danged back went out. So that just ruined my plans for the next week.

Yesterday I put a new headlight bulb in the '97 (bought a 2 pack but only one was out, yes I'm a cheapskate... although should probably put the new better bulb in and keep the old as a spare... might do that tomorrow...).

Today I got the new stereo for the '90, it'll sit in the shop until next week...

I alway change both when one goes out and the one that still worked goes as a spare, when I have two spares, it’s a free bulb change for me, lol. Also helps if I’m short on money to throw a spare in when one goes out. I was going to upgrade the bulbs in the 92 to Silverstar bulbs with my spares, but apparently it doesn’t use 9007 bulbs, which for some reason I thought my choptop used 9007 and is the same headlight style.

Usually when one bulb blows, the same bulb on the other side is about to blow too. This was true when I drove cars with sealed-beam bulbs as well. That twin-pack will be handy.

When I was in the accident just over a month ago I got a whole new front end assembly, between the 4 bulbs there were only 2 good ones and they weren't matched so who knows how close they are...

Took the ranger for a spin in the field. Made the kid's night.
