Gonna put a 1350 manual shift t-case in my ranger thats got a 1354 electric. Dont know what this hole is for tho on my 1350.

And depending on the year of the truck, it gets a steel cable from the mechanical speedo or an electrical sensor. My 1996 has an electrical sensor. Different gears on the sensor for different rear axle ratios. Check the technical library on here for color codes. If your truck has the gear, it will most likely match the rear and not need changing.

Why would they put a speedo gear on the t-case when the tranny already has one? Wouldnt it more likely be a speed sensor for the auto shitfter? Since it cant go into 4 hi above a particular speed?

Im asking because I really dont know, it just doesnt make sense to have to speedo gears.

I was looking at my electric 1354 and it dosent have anything on the rear output of the t-case. It does have electric running to right behind the front output but im guessing that is for the shift motor. The 1354 is on my 99 ranger. The 1350 is supposedly out of an 88 bronco II. If I dont need this is there any reason that I couldnt just plug the hole some how? I did read that there is not a speedo hookup on my 1354. And if anybody is wondering why a 1350 for a 1354? I dont trust electric anything! And i have yet to find a manual 1354 in central ohio for what i payed for the 1350.

Your truck gets its spedometer reading from the rear diff speed sensor.

That hole is for a conventional spedemeter gear and cable.

The speedo is put on the tcase output so that it still reads accurately in low range, aside from that i can't comment as both my electric and my manual 1354's have the speedo hookup's there.
