Maybe. I'm more concerned with the engine and the power loss instead of the wheels.

I went on a 20 mile trip with a elevation difference of about 1000 feet, going uphill. it was gutless. more than once, I had to downshift to 3rd just to get the speed up to 50 mph. This was after plugs and wires.

Today, I changed fuel filter and put a 4 liter radiator in. EVEN MORE GUTLESS! shifting to second and giving it gas yields the truck almost dying (acting like its flooding out). Third gear, same thing. Also, now it is popping out of the exhaust on the passenger side like its backfiring almost.

At this point I am almost done with the truck... AND I JUST GOT IT!

Help me please...

Sounds like too much fuel. 12 mpg is quite a bit short of the near 20 I would expect from your setup. And the other symptons you've listed could be indicators of too much fuel.

Fuel pressure regulator?
Bad fuel injectors?

I would start with the regulator, but I'm certainly no expert.

Maybe try starting a thread in the general forum so more people notice you have a problem and try to help.

^ I was thinking the same culprits. Check fuel pressure and check for leakdown. Check the timing too!

Is it fuel injected? Not sure on the 88's, but if it is, it is a EEC system and they self diagnose, you can pull codes from it. If it is an electrical issue, the computer will tell you. I would pull codes first thing, before you do anything else.

Check here for how to pull codes, called a self test.

On another note, does it get worse as it warms up or right off the get go? Also, check to see if you hit the catalytic converter that it doesn't rattle, like there is something loose inside.

Get back to me with the codes and the other things, I will help you out if I can.

A lot got done this weekend...

* Cap/Rotor
* Dual Out flowmaster exhaust
* Gutted Kittens
* Painted grille to black with chrome surround (Looks Killer)
* Put passenger finder on truck to replace dented fender and rattlecanned black (looks alright to me. Blends with a naked eye)
* Bronco II rear bumper

Before the hate mail starts, Yes, I did gut the catalytic converters. It is ILLEGAL, I do NOT suggest it. I don't have money for the replacements, I needed them to look factory, and I don't notice too much difference in sound. A little raspier but overall great sound.

Pics to follow!

Glowing headers means a lean condition most of the time, or timing is off. Have you checked timing? Replaced fuel filter?
