I’m not sure what to do here, I’ve tried to search but haven’t had any success yet. For whatever strange reason, twice now I’ve bought a new hose assembly and run into this problem. Both hoses came with a bag of O-rings, but they are all round rings, not the square cut rings that go between the back of the pump and the hose assembly. I’m not sure why they don’t seem to be included with the hose that bolts onto the pump. The local parts store says the only way they can get them is if I buy a pump rebuild kit, which I did the last time, but now I have the rest of the kit just sitting here and it seems wasteful and ridiculous to have to buy a whole kit just for two rings, but I dunno how else to get them. Hopefully someone here has an idea of what else to do about this. I’d try to order them off McMaster if I knew what I needed to get.

Just baffled as to why they don’t come with the hose and you get a pack of rings that you don’t really need with the hose instead. I’m going to run into this problem at least once more in the near future too. Right now I’m trying to get it together in my Choptop (let’s just call it a 91 Ranger 4.0 for arguments sake) and I have to do it in the green Ranger (00 Explorer 5.0). I’ll probably run into this again at some point on something too, so I wouldn’t mind having spares, I just don’t want a bunch of unused pump rebuild kits laying around…

Maybe try a hydraulic hose place. A big one that provides parts as well as rebuilds pumps, jacks and whatever else is hydraulic.

I’m about to pull the used ones off an old pump and take measurements…

Are you sure the O-Rings aren't squared off from years of being in the O-Ring groove in the line? I've seen O-rings that should be round looking like that when taking components apart on the aircraft. The replacement O-rings the job called for were definitely round. The old one that came out no longer were.

Pretty sure the ones that came with the compressor rebuild kit were square cut. I don’t exactly remember, but I’m pretty sure they were.

So, after looking into things, seems the new pumps come with round O-rings. I pulled apart an old pump and sure enough, it’s square cut rings in it. They are definitely square cut and not squished round ones. Checked my bag of rings and I have round ones that fit. Guess that’s probably going to be what I try for now. I’ll get some pictures up later and some measurements and whatnot. Apparently the factory used square cut and aftermarket uses round. Strange.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

It is strange. Once they get compressed, they fill more of the cavity. Once pressurized liquid or gas pushes on them, they are supposed to get squished even better into the corners of the cavity. “Supposed to”.

So I still haven’t got around to measuring the rings and seeing what I come up with. I ended up pulling rings out of a junk compressor to measure and then after finding that round are also used I pulled a round set out of my collection and bolted the AC hose onto the pump in the Choptop and removed the old rings, which appeared square. Few days of sitting out and the ones that came from the junk pump are still square. The ones that came from the pump in the Choptop that appeared square are now more round…

Not sure I entirely understand why there seems to be a difference but I guess as long as it works…
