upgrading stuff that gains hp doesn't always lose gas mileage. if you drive it like you are going for gas mileage, you can see improved gas mileage numbers from performance upgrades.

i like to get better gas mileage from stuff so i sometimes do things like you are ask about in search of better mpg numbers. i have done chips, larger air flow meter, and free flowing exhaust on cars and gotten better gas mileage as a result of it if i drive normal but still had more power when i wanted to drive faster. though, i have not tried on a ranger, i feel like it would work just like it did on the jeeps and bmws

You are very welcome. These videos cover different types and different manufactures so a fair bit of knowledge can be learned from them.

I believe in the last video he covers the tip of the valve with coloring and runs the rocker over it so you can see where the rocker rides on the valve stem. It's a good way to know your alignment is good. Keep in mind when he talks about pulling rocker studs out of the head that he is referring to a high horse power / high torque engine. Although the rocker stud deflection is a real thing even in the 3.slow motors.

If you do this mod you will for sure need a tune for the ECU so start looking around you to see if someone semi local can do it for you.
Yes. It sounds as if I will need some professional help.

I wouldn't be nearly so quick to jump to the ECU tuning conclusion. Mass air EFI is remarkably adaptable. It's worth trying as is. I'm running a cam, headers, and roller rockers on my 5.0 with no tune.

I would like to think you are right. $475.00 is not chump change. My concern is that this one upgrade will require another and another.

Feature creep is real.

I honestly wish I'd left well enough alone on some of the engine projects I've done.

I would like to agree with you too. After all, I have dual exhausts which might help the engine to breathe better. Those roller rockers also promise less friction.

And of course, MPG will go down with a lead foot.
