Horsepower TV recently built a 268 horsepower 2.3L that ran a carb and no forced induction. There's a lot of power to be had in those little motors. If you don't want to invest a lot in building a motor, than the V6 would probably be the better path.The third option is basically all the guts out of an '89 Mustang 2.3L.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to work at stiffening the chassis.If you really do have a Vauxhall Chevette, the body will need a load of strengthening before you even think about a better motor/transmission. (and upgrade the brakes) It will crack the floor pan along transmission tunnel if you fit decent suspension (at least, if you corner hard, the body twist's but the wheels stay on the ground)
I've found quite a bit of info on putting a 60* V6 into a Chevette so I think it is a much simpler path to take. It was called the Pontiac Acadian here in Canada. We also had our own version of the Nova that went by the same name. I just always refer to it as a Chevette to people because more people know what a Chevette is.Is that a Pontiac T1000?
