Like Xerofuzzion, I do not care to become an authority on which particular malady is effecting my 4X4 at the moment. I built a simple manual control for my 1999 XLT 3.0 flex OFF ROAD with manual hubs ( NEW shift motor too).
Controller was easy to build, looks good, and works without fail. I can find 2hi, 4hi and 4lo by observing lights connected to the five positioning wires. I cut altered NO WIRES in my harness. This is plug and play I am using two switches and four lights for my controller.
I have two videos on youtube showing the completed controller mounted in my Ranger console. ((1999 ford Ranger shift motor problem solved)) Part 2 also
I'll add another vid of system in use when I get past the thrill of having 4x4 WORKING!!! And for CHEAP!!!! I have been wheeling forest roads the past two weekends with no problems.
