breather tube maybe?

you'll want one on there if it was.
I got the breather tube with it. The breather tube ran up to the shifter area, but the end of the tube is plugged with something, I dont really think it should be plugged...

yep, it should be plug and play.

by the looks of it, you pulled the VSS halfway out of the t-case. you might have to take the one out of your transfer case and put it in the new one. but everything will be interchangeable.

and that will ensure your speedometer is correct as well, in case the donor truck had different size tires or gearing.

When did them VSS's first appear in RBV's?

i was actually referring to the mechanical end of the speedo cable. its called a VSS as well (im pretty sure). im not sure when the electrical VSS first came aboot, probably aboot the time fuel injection did (that VSS is used by the PCM). my '93 has one.

I feel like an idiot to ask this, but, I know I got to drain the fluid in my electric case before taking it out, but what about the tranny fluid, do I have to drain that as well ?

His '93 Explorer does not have a VSS, it is a gear setup. The speedo cable has a gear on the end o fit which is turned by a gear on the output shaft of the transfer case.

Your speedo cable from your '93 Explorer will slip into that hole without any problem. Just remove the stuff that came with the manual transfer case.

the speedo is mechanically driven, and right next to is is an electrical VSS, which is the one the PCM uses for VSS input. in '95 they did away with the mechanical VSS and used the electric one for speedometer functions.

The donor Explorer didnt have a body lift, mine has a 3 inch body lift. Is that going to make problems when it comes time to install the shifter ? I could always lengthen the shifter if needed I guess.

You will have to lengthen the shifter and make the floor pan opening bigger.

Okay, thats good to know. I got two final last questions.
Since the transfer case is out of the truck, is there any maintenance that should be done to the insides of it, such as cleaning it out ?
And, when I install it, does it matter what gear the transfer case is in, and is my transmission fine if I have it in Park ?
Once again, I gotta thank you guys, when I install this on the weekend its going to be a lot easier.

you might as well change the t-case fluid since you dont know its story.

it doesnt matter what gear the t-case is in and your trans. is fine in park.
