this is my first time working on a 2.5l 8plug ranger. I was changing the powe steering pump, plugs and wires and 1 coil pack. Well I have work on engines for years so it not that I am new at all. First off every time I let off the throttle the truck wants to die. I checked for vac leaks crossed wires every thing I I could 2 times. Second I have a worse whining sound in the pump than before. I have jacked up the front and bleed the pump for for some 10 min or so. I am going to try to bleed it a little more with someone to watch for air bubbles.

Ford power steering pumps are famous for the whining noise. Some do it worse than others. I think Ford had a special procedure to put a vacuum on the reservoir to try to get the air out of the fluid, but that didn't work sometimes. And then you get a worn out rebuilt pump from one of the rebuilders, and the whining can be worse. You may have to live with it.

My credo
Nothing is so difficult it cannot be overcome by brute force and ignorance =8-)
Thanx for the heads up on the P.S. whining, my 2001 with 140,000 miles *just* began doing this and I've been changing the P.S. fluid at every 3,000 mile HOT LOF until it remained red and sweet smelling .

Too bad they don't have a filter in there like my old Mercedes Diesel taxi ~ I'm almost to 1/2 million miles and so far only P.S. fluid, filters and seals, it still works like new .

Too any fail to ever change the P.S. fluid the *instant* it gets dark or begins to smell burned .
