Hello all!
Looking for a fuel pressure output (in psi) from just the 85-88 In tank low pressure pump? In our 88 STX we've
replaced the dead & missing 2.9FI w/ a Buick carbed turbo 3.8 and are still using the in tank pump.
Trying to figure what the output pressure of the low pressure pump will be before the mechanical (carb) factory 3.8 pump on the block. We know we need a fuel pressure regulator to be sure to be at safe operating pressure at the guadrajet. I know the carbed Rangers were at 4.5-7 psi and the high pressure pump on the factory 88 would be about 40 psi.
Thanks for any info!
Mike

It will be under 9psi for sure

But you don't need it, or want it, if you are using an engine driven mechanical pump, they can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch, lol
Just remove the in tank pump and extend the hose in the tank and put on a sock/filter

With electric pumps and carbs you need to have an automatic shut off for safety reasons
Popular one for car makers was an oil pressure switch that grounded the Fuel Pump relay activating the electric pump once engine was started, carbs have fuel bowls, so always have gas to start, doesn't work with EFI, lol
If a fuel line should break, accident, engine would stall and electric pump would shut off
If a roll over engine would stall and electric pump would shut off, carbs don't work sideways or upside down
