does any one know if a 1999 4wd 4.0 ranger oil pan will work on a 2wd 99 ranger 4.0 ?

Should. Engine is the same, isnt it? There is no different sumps for 4wd and 2wd

There is actually a difference- 4WD sump is deeper.

At least on the 5R55E, which I think they used in 99.

You totally can do the swap though, you just also need the 4WD filter as well, as it is longer to match the deeper sump of the 4x4 pan.

I misread your post, but it still applies- just make sure you are using the filter for the pan, so in your case, get the 2wd filter along with the 2wd pan.

i purchased a complete engine out of 4wd truck to put in my 2wd same year & both had auto trans,i know the 4wd spin on oil filter is different &oil pan is different & of course oil pump pickup. i was thinking i heard that the 4wd pan would work on 2wd but not the other way around (but i don’t know that)was hoping to avoid starting the install & having to lift it out to change pans & pickup tube

well i called a ford parts dept. today, they looked up 1999 ranger 4.0 & said only one oil pan showed. didn’t show a different part # for 2wd or 4wd ! it’s 25 years old so i don’t know if their lists are as accurate as they used to be. what do you think ?
