Seems you have the kids that don't know/don't care and the ones that went to college got a peice of paper that says there smart but are to hand fed to think for themselves.
Yup.

I have my degrees, and I still ask a lot of questions, but then again, I'm getting a lot of advanced level work a lot faster than I had ever hoped. And when I don't get it put back together right, expensive things break.

Questions are cheap, engines are expensive.

That and what my gramps always told us about work. "When you leave a job, it should hurt your employer." I've gotten jobs on that alone.
I agree, same thing I was taught. My Grandpa and Dad's words were "make yourself an asset, wherever you go, and you will always have job". Integrity is everything. You earn a reputation when you have integrity. I have guys at work who ask me "how do I fix ________?" on home repairs, car repairs, computers, and electronics almost daily.

Yep, I was always taught to never do a job in a way I wouldn't want to stick my name on it. But, I'm a perfectionist in many ways. If I walk into a room with a crooked picture, I've got to fix it. If I don't it's going to keep my attention until it's done.

thats being crazy man :icon_twisted: lol joke

Or like me where the wheel center emblem are all pointed the same direction to the valve stem. There is only one wheel weight on each side of the wheel. If there are two on the same, they are never more than .25oz difference between the two. There is an order to how things get done, so as not to get confused and leave a step out.

My last boss was definitely a self-made man. He started small and learned everything on his own. Now 30-40 years later, anybody in the trades in town knows who he is and what kind of work he does. All of his jobs he gets by word of mouth, the only ad of any kind I ever saw was a 3x4' piece of plywood he had in storage that hasn't seen the light of day in probably 10-15 years.

I gave him a few months notice and every once in a while he'd ask me if I was still moving. He was super bummed. Shortly after I was hired at my current job my boss asked how old I was, and I told him I was 21. He thought I was about 30.

I've been lucky to have been taught by somebody who knows what they do, and actually gives a damn. It makes it really easy for me to spot something that's not right, and these days I see it a lot.

My credo
Work hard and play harder
My thing is do it right the first time so you do not have to come back and do it again. My father operates on the same principle as a independent contractor and myself as a RF tech for Ericsson. I have had co workers look at me funny and ask me why I did things a certain way. I explain it and they get pissed off bc that means there is 1 less ticket for us to work in the future. You cannot win them all I guess but I am not willing to compromise my work ethic just so I have a ticket in the future.

This just about sums up a lot of the comments. We had quite a few youngsers at work who had the good work habits and the brains to back them up with. My sister the teacher who just retired said that so many young teachers going into the work force really are so not ready or prepared (some dumb as rocks).
