My ‘90 Ranger has that “Shift-on-the-fly” stuff with (most likely) all original parts. I went to a junkyard and took a working 4x4 and Low Range panel from a Mazda B4000. And i took the old one out and replaced it just to see if my problem was the buttons, because when I bought it and for a couple years until the light most likely burnt out, the low range light would always stay on. Only thing was, nothing was activated. My dad and I did that truck self diagnostic on that control board on the driver side behind an interior panel and it said it worked. So, would the wires going from the control board to the dash buttons melted at the connections or something? It’s nothing new that my truck has interior wiring problems, mainly just the instrument panel and the 4x4. I just want to get multiple points of views so I can do a trial and error type of diagnostic

Hey Reviver. Wiring can be a headache sometimes, and a real pain once they get let go a while, good luck with that man.
Those are good shifters, I put a new one in mine after buying it, knowing it needed replaced. After looking into the original it just needed cleaned up and oiled but at that time I wasn't familiar with them, but it's not much different from a small starter or any other simple electrical accessory after seeing inside one.
