Rearview mirror end of life...

Hi everybody,
While cleaning the mirror it fell off. There is absolutely no glue on the metal support normally attached to the windshield. My problem, the metal part which is blocked in the plastic insert of the mirror. I would have liked to remove the metal part to glue it back to the windshield, and then re-insert the mirror, after the glue has set well on the windshield.
Any solutions?

Are you saying you can't get the metal tab out of the mirror?

Did you remove the set screw?

What do you mean when you say it is "blocked in the plastic insert of the mirror. "?
Can you post a pic?

When mine fell off several years ago, I seem to remember a set screw or something.

Theres a very small allen headed set screw that holds the metal base in.

On many newer trucks, there is no setscrew. There is a tiny metal tab that must be pushed in order to release the mirror from the mounting button. I’m not sure what year they made the change to that style, but, if I recall correctly, that’s how my ‘93 is.

Or, maybe mine originally had the setscrew and my replacement auto-dimming compass mirror has the spring tab.

So I've seen rearview models with visible screws, but there, nothing...unless it's hidden at the bottom of the opening?

The setscrew or tab will be in that little notch on the bottom end. Shine a bright light in there and you should see it. Your last photo has the best view of the notch.

There's a tab inside the notch at the bottom of the mirror base that will release the mount. Eric types faster than I do.
Make sure to use a mirror mount kit with the proper glue and prep solvent so it will stick.

and, just so you don't do something i have done, the round part goes up when you glue it back to the window. other wise, you won't be happy the rest of the day

And don't get it too close to the top of the window to put the mirror back on.

So yes indeed, I spotted the windshield before cleaning, thanks to the traces of the old glue.
But on the other hand, I don't have the right glue. I'm going to try to find it tomorrow, because it's essential to pass the technical inspection in France and it's fast approaching...Thursday March 7.
I also need a glue activator and that's what I'm missing today. Thank you for all your thoughts and valuable help.
