Hi All,

Redoing the busted old interior of my 94. Found a set of seats from an 07 in a salvage yard, but they have airbags in them...
Want to make sure they're not going to go off on me inadvertently at some point. The most information I can find says "if there's no power to them, they won't go off."
But up under the rail on the driver's seat there's this canister that says "Warning: EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL INSIDE..."
Do I have to worry about this if there's no power to these seats?
I wanted to carefully remove the airbags, but there's no information about that anywhere that I can find.
I figure people must swap out seats pretty regularly, so there must be some info out there about how to make sure they're safe.
Just having trouble locating this specific answer.

Thanks in advance!

I installed a set of 2016 Focus seats in my 98. They have the same warning underneath. Mine have no power to them either. No worries in them going off.

they need the electricity to ignite the explosive material so you are good. i swap seats in and out of stuff all the time and have never had an airbag go off. i just did seats in my 05 mazda6 sunday

The best solution is to put a jumper across those 2 pins on the connector to the airbag - that way there is not even a chance of static electricity buildup causing the bag to blow.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
Side impact airbags weren’t available on a Ranger until 2010… those would be seatbelt pre-tensioners. The small explosive pulls the seat belt tighter in the event of an accident.

Thanks for the reply! Good bit of info - yeah, ok... I could see the little explosive thingie attached to a cable that goes to a spring-looking thing near the seat belt tensioner under the seat...

We're these difficult to install, and how much modification did you have to do?
Thanks

I cut the tracks off of the Ranger and Focus seats and then welded the Ranger tracks back onto the Focus seats. Removing the tracks took the most time. Its an all day job but worth it.
