Is this too big a tire? Truck is presently in another state, and getting tires and rims for when it will be home in a couple weeks.. With the stock alloy rims it had 245-75-16. While I had the truck, I had the for dealership replace the Firestones during the recall with 265-75-16.

The tire shop advises not going to steel rims because they are lug centic instead of hub centric. They can balance off the stud holes or the center hole. They say aluminum wheels are hub centric. Thinking about 4.25 or 4.5 backspacing compared to stock 4.0 backspacing. Also they advise that the 285 section tires have 2 big a diameter and suggest 2.65. I saw the truck last weekend and it has 245-75-16 on it with plenty of gap in the fenders.

Anybody have any experience or advice?

I feel the short answer is they won't fit. You will have lots of rub.

Most factory wheels are 7 inch wide with a 4.5 inch backspace.

I ru 265/75/16 at factory ride height and they fit with minimal rub.

Every truck is different... what works for me might not work for you and vice versa.

Most people that run that tire are typically on 8 inch wide wheel with a 3.75 backspace. They also do a torsion bar crank to max or run a 3 inch body lift.

This my truck with the 265's at factory height and the second is same tire with a 1 1/2 torsion key lift... 1 inch shackle lift in the rear and new 1750 lb rear leaf springs.

This is what a 33x10.50x15 looks at factory ride height...

I plan to put those 33's on my truck with the lift I installed... but only after a 1 inch body lift.

I would also caution you on gearing...

I have a 4.10 gear... and while not optimal... it will run 33 inch tire ok. If you have a 3.73 gear... I feel a 33 is a bit too tall.

There are variances in trucks as well as tires. So a definite yes or a definite no is hard to give. Generally speaking, you can get a 31X10.5R15 to fit with almost no rubbing.

32" is going to depend on the tire since not all tires are actually the size they say they are. The example uncle gump gave with his truck is a good one.

33" without a lift is going to be a no go.

Plus, if your spare tire carrier is like mine, 31" is going to be the max you will get to fit in it. Anything bigger will have to go in the bed or on a tire carrier.

Ok, this is weird but i found a pic.

So, 2004 edge with torsion bars set to stock height and no rear lift with 30s. I dont know the wheel offset but they came off a 98 wrangler when he got new wheels and went to 32s
