The SVT 5.0 Ranger is Red Flairside with an explorer front clip.
I have a 10th anniversary SVT book that has the history of SVT and all the prototypes an whatnot. SVT Built the prototype 5.0 Ranger and the Prototype second Gen Lightning at the same time and they said when it came time to pick witch one to build there wasn't much of a price difference between building A 5.0 Ranger or Lightning so they went with the Lightning.
You know that's been in our Resource section right?here is some more info on the truck. i wish i new what they did with it!!!!!

There's no difference in the trucks except size. The Ranger was billed as a real truck, but shrunk down, since it's inception. It has a stout enough frame to handle a Lightning drivetrain, and a 31-spline 8.8 will handle it as well. They use the same suspension, steering, everything. And the 1,000# weight loss would make a Ranger much, much quicker with that drivetrain. I think it would have been too much for the insurance department. A much better choice though. A Ranger has about the same size and weight as something as an old Fairlane--thing Ford Thunderbolt, except a real Ford Thunderbolt that has more than the anemic Ranger thing had. A motor that could whip ass on an original 427 Thunderbolt.Nahh, I love my Rangers and all but F150's are better trucks and were a way better choice for the Lightning. Idk if you ever drove a Lightning or not but When my Dad still had his and would let me drive it, they just have a feel to them that I dont think Ford could have gotten out of a Ranger, that and nothing can beat the sound of a Supercharger Screaming at Full boost.
Most guys with the Supercharged Lightnings say their biggest problem is getting the thing to hook up, losing 1k pounds wouldn't help that any, especially with much more of the weight they would be losing coming from the back end of the truck (the 5.4 would still weigh the same in the front) I say it would have been a purpetual cookie machine and little else...There's no difference in the trucks except size. But we never get what we want.
When I went to shop for trucks, I found I could get half ton with a 5.4L V-8 and room for 4 remotely normal sized people or 6 in a pinch and still get better milage than my college roomate's 2000 4.0 Ranger (he got 16mpg on the highway I got 18 pre grille guard, now I am at 15-16) The whole rig was about $3k more than a comparable Ranger, and I can actually do something else with it than haul just my dirtbike around.but most people that buy them want full sized trucks.... mostly cause they're fat and rich, and have sit-down jobs, where they bring in tons of cash(need the bigger bed size). their huge body mass means they need a full size.... but i still want one.
someones on crack for even thinking about that one!
found it!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone over on RPS says he has driven it. It was am amazing truck. Now it just sits and is starting the rusting process.here is some more info on the truck. i wish i new what they did with it!!!!!

I know this thread is kinda old but is this the truck you were talking about?Awesome. I'm glad somebody else has heard of this truck. I was starting to think i was crazy.
Do you have any links/pictures?
Yeah that's similar. I found the issue of motor trend but i don't have a scanner so no dice. The truck featured had a long box and was cherry red.I know this thread is kinda old but is this the truck you were talking about?
