Hello everyone,
First, I’d like to explain the situation that myself and other local 4x4 enthusiasts have been forced into. In Saskatchewan, our vehicle insurance and registration is handled by a crown corporation called SGI. Since they are controlled by the government, they can effectively pass laws in regards to vehicles and traffic in general.
A few months ago, SGI released a policy in regards to lifted vehicles, without consulting the public, 4x4 owners, or any companies who sell lift related parts. The policy was ridiculous; It effectively banned lifted vehicles all together. A few local clubs gathered together and protested enough to get the policy rescinded. As a result, SGI held meetings with 4x4 owners in an effort to come up with a fair policy that would take both safety and our investments into consideration.
As of last week, a new policy was introduced. Many of us, including myself, are not happy with the results. One of the notable new policies is that vehicles with tires over 35” will be limited to 80km/hr on any road that is marked 100km/hr, and 90km/hr on any road that is marked 110km/hr. There are also extra inspections for lifted vehicles. Any parts that I have built myself may be failed upon inspection. There are also new frame height restrictions in addition to the old restriction of a 29.5” bumper height. They are tiered, and based on GVWR. A ranger must not have a frame taller than 29”. Even my truck, on fullwidth one ton axles and brakes.
I would appreciate it if anyone on here would take a few minutes of their time and send an email to raisedvehiclefeedback@sgi.sk.ca to express their concerns with the new policy. We are a small group of enthusiasts, and any number of emails would likely help us out. I like my truck, and I’d like to continue to safely drive it on the road rather than sell it to recoup some of my investment if the policy goes through. My truck, and many others are simply too nice and well built to become trail only rigs.
The new policy can be found here.
Thanks
