My '97 Ranger was making a violent "clunk" when descending against compression in 4Low. I've since learned that that's probably caused by the little plastic bushings on one of the shift selectors wearing or disintegrating... We'll see.
Anyway, local junkyard yielded a 1354 electric shift that I'm rebuilding for a swap, using parts from http://www.americanpowertrainwarehouse.com, whom I can recommend wholeheartedly.
I'll post pictures when I'm done.
I couldn't find much by way of manuals for the 1354e, but it turns out to be quite simple, with one exception:
How do you get the oil pump off the main shaft? There's no snap ring - looks like a convex ring of some sort. Should I just apply some muscle and press that off the main shaft?
