I drew it up really quick, with the 3.937" bore spacing and 3.552" bore the 6.8 would be 4" longer than the 5.4, that is correct unless Ford had to alter anything on the front that would make it longer yet like a different water pump or something along that line... (15.36 vs 19.31) The 5.4 is as long as the 4.6 is though, it is wider but not longer.

I found this under the 5.0 at Ford Racing (same bore spacing and thus length as the 4.6/5.4 +/- any FEAD related changes)

24.62" + 4" = 28.62"... pretty darn close to 28" :icon_thumby:

That's good to know from what I have seen the front is physically identical to all other mod motors.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
i have seen the v10 in all of the rwd platforms in proto except the ls type cars and rangers.

been thinking about my psd in my e350 and i have made some measurements and based on that had a few ideas about going with a fat bastard engine..

one you may consider but since your rig is basically complete maybe not.

i looked at custom mandrel rails as well, so it could be real stout if one went that way.

basically i thought about widening the rails to factory spring perch on my 79 d60 and that would allow me to drop the engine a bit. seems this would help in any case but iirc your already 3 in wider with a sla in the engine bay. dont remember off hand.

though i thought the v10 was a bit over 32 inches long as well.

in any case big blocks do not require firewall mods.

theres a shit ton of room in the later rangers when compared to the gen 1's if your willing to customize the core support and do it right. as you know once you clean off the frame with a sas its pretty wide open to do cool v10 or big block stuff.

if the keys shown are right then pats is a non issue. its a non issue anyway, just get a non pats pcm or have it tuned out.

i like it:icon_thumby:

Good to see you post something up in here. I believe you are correct on the wider front clip but no idea how much. I do know it is still not as wide as the 2nd gen explorers at the body from junkyard measurements. Right now I am slightly worried the front accessories will not clear the current steering box which would suck since I do not want to go outside the frame rail.

Overall length is a toss up there is a lot of missinformation floating around online I am just going to break out the tape measure when I get back on US soil and see what happens.

Anyone have ideas for the AC? I am thinking I might be able to get away with rebuilding the stock HVAC box out of some sheetmetal and relocating the evap over, but no idea if that will work or if I will have to remote mount it further forward.

no prob on the ac....do it just like you mention. its hvac. make your own box and vent tubing.

she fits no matter what. if it comes in a regular car or pickup it sure as fawk will go in a ranger. be custom fit for some issues for sure but its fawking custom.

Sounds good. Unluckily still got a few months until the deployment is over before I can start :(

Just to bump this thread up a bit. I have been extremely busy and the winter has been non-helpful (blizzards started in Oct) This is getting started back up on again post tax season.

The mighty tape measure makes it appear as if it will fit, but I will have to push the radiator under the core support and might be able to run some slimlines in push/pull.

Yea I started pulling the harness from the donor truck last weekend before the snow blew in again. Other than that still have to tear down the ranger.

Stripped away the front clip, pulled the rad and started pulling harnesses off the stocker. This will get done eventually.

Can't wait to see more updates on this! Everyone gave me a sideways look when I suggested a v10 in a Ranger.
