Hello to all im in need of a little info, my buddy has a 95/96 ranger with 4.0l and 5speed, he ran it hot this weekend and cracked the head, i have a good running 97 4.0l but it has eight bolts on the flywheel and his has 6 if i get a flywheel those two engine should just change out other than the wiring?

I would swap the motor, but keep all the wiring in his truck, just swap the motor and thats it. And get a 8 bolt flywheel/clutch for it.

The 8-bolt flywheel was a running change on the 4.0OHV.

Essentially the 4.0OHV engines with the 8-bolt cranks have
the 4.0SOHC, "Lightweight rotating assembly" in them.

This was a development to allow the 4.0SOHC to rev to 6-grand
without chucking pieces of crankshaft about the countryside.

About the only difference you'll notice is that the 8-bolt engine will "free rev" a little more quickly.
