And if you get one that hasn't had that coolant it could very well take thousands to make it a solid engine.
if you pay the dealarship than yeah, anything will cost you thousands, under $500 if you have a brain and can do some research instead of just throwing parts at it

I really love Cummins but sadly, they come attached to over 3 tons of dookie.

My 03 6.0L is going strong with 218,000km's on it. Original headgaskets, head bolts, oil and EGR coolers (the 03's rarely IF ever blow an EGR cooler). The truck has followed the ford maintenance plan since it was bought new. I'm the second owner of it and it was purchased from the dealership I pull wrenches at. The previous owner pulled a 36 foot 5th wheel with it all summer since he bought it.

If you maintain them, change the oil every 5000km's, change the fuel filters every 10,000kms, and flush your coolant regularly (or switch to an EC-1 ranted ELC coolant) You will have many many trouble free miles out of your 6.0L. They run like a raped ape, and put the 7.3L to shame.

I love the Ex's! and that color really does look good on it! You've got my vote!

If you want a Diesel that will last forever, get the International 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel.

be prepared to spend alot more than a few hundred. the oil coolers are shit, the injectors crap out. heads suck, the egr system is a known failure point. look for international all the way. I personally have a 99 dodge. i agree with the pile of shit they are, i.e axles electrical, brakes, etc. 320,000 on the engine tho and ive only replaced one injection pump, 2 thermostats, and a waterpump. o and a starter last week sorry. im original owner as well. you cant beat an inline six with fewer moving parts and all moving in one direction. go cummins! but if your stuck with ford i wold try and get the international anyday
If I could get a Cummins powered SUV with room to sleep in, I would. lol
