I have always found I could do the work several times over for what they wanted, and even do it better.
If you have the place to work on it roll up your sleeves and dig in :)
Check pawn shops and rummage sales for tools of all sorts. You'll want torque wrenches, ridge reamers, just assorted things, you might run across them most anywhere. Others you can get from parts stores loaners
Catch Pick and Pay - bucket days and such if you can catch them
I picked up spare starters, alternators, all sorts of emissions gadgets for little of nothing
Good luck with what you've got going there

Well it only recently got milky. So should I get it sent to another shop to be checked?
The guys on this board mess around with their vehicles all the time. They have spare vehicles, and to save money they try things, they have the time. And the money they are saving by doing it themselves makes it worth it.

No professional shop that you take your truck to is going to do the above. Labor is high, they know you are not going to pay them to experiment around and partially rebuild a unknown engine that may or may not work afterward.. They are going to get the job done and guaraentee their work. That is why you are getting different recomendations from the shops compared to on here

I was bad about blowing head gaskets, never quite figured out why but I'm sure I passed 130 a few times

All I ever did was drain the oil and pull the heads, and give it some new oil and gaskets

Not a good noise. Talked with the shop today said motor was blown. And it overheated. Couldn't tell cause temp gauge didn't work

I have seen that up close and the many times I did a couple gaskets patched it completely
Sorry man, I see this has already gone around the block a time or two. You can drop some gaskets in there and find out or you can turn it over to them along with your paycheck for the next what, 5 years or so? Good luck man
