Looking for a stock intake manifold for the 2.8 liter V6. Would prefer something in Good+ condition. Willing to purchase outright or trade parts.

When I looked at one of these a few years ago, it was the older style with the thermostat housing in the lower front cover. The later part number is E5TZ-9424-E. I’m still on the lookout for an NOS one of them.

I had noticed that you were in Cincinnati, like they are.

IIRC, the t-stat is in the timing gear cover. So, there's two different styles?

Yes, sometime in mid ‘85 the thermostat was moved to the top of the intake manifold. The bypass hose connects to the upper thermostat housing rather than the intake. Pictured, is the later style.

Thanks @AndyB. I checked the VIN Sticker and my truck was made in September of '84. My water neck is different and when I tore the old engine down, the t-stat was in the timing gear cover.

But, if there's a special t-stat housing for the water neck, how does that change the manifold such that there's an early and a late version?

This is the later thermostat housing, on early models that large pipe connector is a part of the intake manifold.

@AndyB. So, are those two parts used in conjunction with each other? I'm having a hard time visualizing this.

Also, why does there seem to be two water temperature sensors?

It’s the same part, different views. There thermostat goes inside, another pieces connects to that housing and the upper radiator hose.

There’s a coolant temperate sensor (two wires) goes to ECU, the other sending unit/switch goes to the gauge/warning light.

So, if I'm going to switch to the Duraspark ignition, then one sensor won't be connected?

If you're scrapping the ECU... you won't need the two wire ECT sensor.
